2007 Yaris code P0302

Good morning, Everyone

While driving yesterday, I came to a road construction where the pavement is taken out and there is a bump on the Road after you go into section and out back to the page section.
Right after I hit the bump to join the pavement ( 15-20Mph) or less.. my car started to hesitate and lost power , the engine light came on solid then started blinking as I pressed the gas pedal.. wierdly enough as I let go the pedal the light when OFF, but came back ON.

Since I needed to get home, I crawl home car would not go 20mph in uphill.
The car ran as if I was missing a plug, The weird part is that it was lurching some times while shacking.

Got home as read the code which gave me the P0203 code.

Could a bump in the Road screw up a Coil or would it probably a lossen the conection?

My car is a 2007 Yaris sedan has 163k miles, as far as I can remember I never replaced coils nor sparks plugs, no codes still giving me 32 mpg..

Thank you

Daniel Rodriguez

Clear the code. Swap the coil from the misfiring cylinder with coil from another cylinder. If coil is bad, a code should now show up for the cylinder which received the suspect coil.

Hello, WeeYari

Thank you for your feedback. I tried that and the code came back to the same original cylinder. Then I took the spark plugs out , they looked nasty.. I cleaned them with some Sand paper, re-gap them , put them back and car ran better, no miss-firing, no code.
I bought new spark plugs, retest the car, no code, but idle was still rough.
I saw a video, related to Yaris and Idle issues.. and cleaning the throtle Body could help.
I sent some time cleaning the throtle Body area and the flap..
Cleaned the air filter, got a bottle of inyector cleaner, to see if this would cleaner and assist with idle...

test running the car for a few miles, drove in the highway..

no issues
Tomorrow I will drive a bit longer to make sure code is not coming back..

Thank you much

Daniel

wow that's crazy that happened to you but maybe it's good cause then you're not stranded on the road down the road. You opened it up and cleaned it up as far as spark plugs etc. I got my Yaris used in 2019. I have an 09. I didn't have records of the previous owner so I just changed my plugs in 2020. When we looked at them they weren't too bad but replaced it anyway for a peace of mind. I drive a lot anyway.
