my 2008 yaris needs a new transmission
the problem started this winter, a general louder than usual noise which I attributed to my new winter tires. Winter tires came off in early April and the noise was there, and getting louder. It took two weeks to even get them to look at my car "busy with all the winter tire removals," was the excuse.
Yesterday I found out I need a whole new transmission...apparently when they pulled the plug to drain the fluid, they noticed metal shavings...the insides have been grinding away and it's going to get noisier and continue wearing. So, Toyota being the wonderful folks that they are have ordered me a new transmission which arrives on Monday...only problem is I can't get an appt. for another 19 days. I've been assured that it won't die or explode (the service fellas have such a sense of humour) and it's going to get noisier but I can safely continue to drive it. Luckily, it's covered by the power train warranty, I'm now at 62K. All along I've been feeling rather smug that my Yaris, which I love (I've rented the Versa twice and mileage is not nearly as good) has escaped any of the accelerator recalls. I'm now rather disappointed that the transmission is defective and not at all impressed with the service delays. |
