Hitch question
So, we're looking into getting bikes, and we want to get a hitch on the back of the 2012 so that we can get a carrier for the bikes. CURT Manufacturing is where the local places are saying they will be able to 'special order' the hitch for us (seems to me as they didn't give me a part number, [I didn't ask], the hitch they must be ordering is part# 110500.) That same part number matches for the 2007-2011 model liftbacks.
I'm assuming that since the manufacturer is saying that it will fit all the model years 2007 to 2012, that I shouldn't need to special order it and pay extra for one that they might have in stock right now. I'm hoping to go in tomorrow and see if they will let me 'eye-ball it' up to the car. The bumper 'tie downs' look the same in the install manual <<<LINK. If that is the case we might get a hidden hitch or this one for cheaper....Hell the year is almost over, you'd think manufacturer's would've had this figured out by now....

does anyone know the weight of our cars? the gvrw is 3322lbs, this hitch says 200lbs tongue and 2000lbs trailer.
i'm wondering if i can tow a trailer 700-1000lbs. or do i need to buy a beater truck to haul a jetski. |

I know they don't rate them for towing in the N American market, but they do in most other parts of the world.... if you always keep it under 1000 lbs total you should be fine; it might be good to get an additional trans cooler if you have an auto.
Advertised curb weight is 2400 lbs on all 2012 models, I haven't taken it to the local truck scales to prove it yet. |

Alright! i have my hitch installed, its hidden hitch. can barley see it from the back and only the receiver. in the manual it says not to to anything, but with a toyota brand hitch you can tow 700lbs. also for trailer brakes you only need them if your hauling over 1/2 gross weight.
hitch install info http://www.hiddenhitch.com/content/d...ion/N60209.pdf oh and i do have this on an se, its tight against the bottom of the rear bumper, and i did have to remove the exhaust tip, just slides off. |
