Yaris Auto Transmission shifting
Hi
Does anyone have a problem with their Yaris not shifting into third or fourth when cold? In the morning I will have to get up to 50 or 55 KPH before my Yaris will shift to third. I hate to think of what this will be like in the winter. Glenn |

It's fine in the winter. No problems last winter at all, and this is what the yaris is supposed to do. Cars these days are made to warm up as quick as possible, staying in a lower gear helps heat both the engine and the transmission to regular operating temperature faster. it's just as bad for the car to run cold as it is to run hot, so it will want to heat up asap.

^^^Yeah what he said. Its emissions reasons. My ECHO does it too. Its annoying but you get use to it.

Thanks for the info guys
I feel a lot better now. I actually let it warm for 20 - 30 seconds and it has helped it shift a bit faster.

Normal as indicated above. Just drive it gently until it warms up and shifts into high gear.

I know what you mean, it does this to me even on hot days if I don't go for a drive at lunch. It's a real pain because I'm half a kilometer from the highway and sometimes it's exhibiting this behavior when I'm trying to merge.

I guess all you can do is leave 2 mins earlier and let it run longer before you take off, but it does seem wasteful

I never do highway driving to get to work.. always city so I haven't really had any issues. But I do know what you mean by that it doesn't shift until it's warmed up. Actually, I notice it doesn't do so really until after the little "cool" light is off.
