Micro Image - underpanel prototype

We have our underpanel in final prototype, almost ready for production. We've made some unique design changes and improvements to existing underpanels out there. Your comments are welcomed!

1. The new panel has no vents in the bottom. There is plenty of airflow out the back and there were complaints about the vents scraping.
2. The panel has a 90-degree bend in the rear for stiffness. This avoids having to take apart some of your suspension to install the panel, and now requires fewer brackets and hardware.
3. This kit comes with two side panels and three front brackets that permanently bolt to existing holes on the car - no drilling.
4. The panel attaches to the brackets with stainless quarter-turn Dzus fasteners. You don't have to unbolt the whole thing just to change your oil.

With seven points of attachment, the panel is very secure, yet easy to remove. This will come with all the hardware needed, all the brackets, two side panels, and the underpanel. It will be hard anodized in red or grey.

This should improve aerodynamics and possibly add a couple of mpg.

The first run of these will be approximately $189 which includes shipping.

Here are a few pics of the prototype; keep in mind that this is a very rough, unfinished version for us to test on the car.

Dzus (pronounced Zooss) is a proprietary name for a type of quarter-turn fastener often used to secure skin panels on aircraft. It was invented by William Dzus in the early 1930s. Quarter-turn fasteners are used to secure panels in equipment, airplanes and racing cars that must be removed often and/or quickly. [1]

Half hour on the 101 freeway between 30 and 80 mph and there are no rattles or whistles...this thing is pretty sweet.

Garm neglected to mention that this thing takes about 20 seconds to remove or install with the Dzus buttons, and the lack of the black plastic underpanels actually makes oil changes a little easier because those OEM panels actually hang down a little lower than the aluminum underpanel.

That's what we started with, too. it's the main thing I didn't like about that one.

If these end up going on sale, I might just have to order one. When I ran a tire over a few months ago, it completely took my black engine bay protector along with it, as well as a few of the spots that the screws were in to hold it on. I'd definately like to protect the thing again.

Looking at the pic he posted.... It seems like it will fit both. Not sure how different the connecters for the front bumper are though.

Planning on red and grey for now (I just want to be like NST when I grow up), although clear anodize would be cheaper by a few dollars.

We'll get a sedan over here to check it out as soon as possible.
