HA! I like that the way Ford and GM gained "productivity" was to lay off workers... WTF?!?

A co-worker of mine used to work for GM in Michigan. He has told me many times how they had people there who basically glue on a rear view mirror and were making $40+ per hour. It's amazing. GM pays on average $30 more per hour to their workers than say Toyota. GM takes 10 hours longer to produce a car than Toyota and they lose over $1K on every car sold.
I was in a union, United Aerospace Workers. I thought they served their purpose. But, it seems with the automotive industry, unions are a way for people to get paid more for doing less and less. <sigh> |

Interesting article...too bad they only touched on time used to build a vehicle. Making a vehicle in the least time...yet still including quality and reliability, is remarkable!

GM and Ford will eventually be fine, the next few years will be the final stake in the heart of the autounions in the U.S. Unions have outlived their usefullness and are now holding back american companies from competing in a global market. I like toyota they usually build a good car and I love my yaris, but it would be nice to be able to buy a GM or Ford car and get the same reliability.
