VIS Monster Carbon fiber hood
I've been seeing a lot of pics of yarii with carbon fiber hoods.
I understand your supposed to use hood pins. but the yarii i see do not have hood pins? is this because it is unlikely for the latch to break and fly off while driving? |

I have the VIS Monster Carbon Fiber Hood. The manufacturer states that the hood is for "off road use only", and that "hood pins are required for safety purposes". I had the same concerns as you. When I talked to the dealer I bought the hood from he told me that the manufacturer has to state this to cover their own ass in case something *DOES* happen, so they are not liable. He assured me that he never heard of anyone having a problem with this particular hood, but that it does happen with carbon fiber hoods of lower quality like echo_hrs stated. In the beginning I was dead set against getting hood pins for my Yaris, but to have peace of mind I decided to get them for safety concerns. I travel the Garden State Parkway often, and didn't want to risk my carbon fiber hood slamming up into my windshield, or worse flying off and hitting another car. So for peace of mind I got them just as an extra insurance policy even though the hood is considered "quality"...not the best, but it's a decent hood IMO. I think the pins I chose go good with my hood style/painting scheme, and compliment the look of the car IMO. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

i dont think you need hood pins with the vis hoods
latches are strong, we have one on the TC and opted not to put hood pins on we had pins on our old CF hood |

I don't have pins on my CF hood and it is fine I honestly think with how small and light the hoods are plus the angle they sit at you don't have anything to worry about.
