Volume of iPod connected to AUX is low
Hello Happy Yaris owners.
I just goy my Blazing Blue Yaris LB last Friday. What a fun car. :) I do have a question... I have a iPod Mini and connected it via AUX port using a mini stereo cable. For some reason, the sound output of the iPod through the speakers are much lower than the sound I get from the FM stations. For example, when I listen to radio at volume setting 20, I would have to turn the volume to 35-40 to listen to the iPod. Is anyone else experiencing this? Is there a work around? Do I need a differrent mini stereo cable? Thank you for your kind response. :) |

My creative mp3 player needs to be cranked up all the way, but then 20 does the trick, although 25 is right about perfect.

another factor is the level that the song was recorded/ripped at.

Another factor is probably that the headphone jack on the iPod isn't impedance-matched to the line-level input of the radio's AUX port. You could try plugging your iPod in to the iPod dock, which actually has a proper line-level output that should be proper impedance and level for the radio's AUX port.
I have the same problem with my iPod, but I don't know where I'd position the iPod in the dock in my sedan. It's possible that someone makes just a cable that plugs into the dock connector that provides a line out jack that would be less bulky than having to use the dock. |

Actually, I use an iRiver (but let's just say a non-iPod) that I plug directly into the aux port. I have a similar problem. At maximum mp3 player volume, I still have to crank my stereo up to 50+ to get nominal listening volume (this applies to all mp3 content, though songs play just slightly louder than podcasts).
The big issue is that I get in the habit of having the stereo volume cranked while listening to the mp3 player, and then plugging in/out the cable causes a loud pop in the system that I just know will eventually do something bad to the speakers. Can I do something about the impedance matching? |
