there's at least one driver in the US with over 350k... I think there is another driver over 300k too. Those people have been delivery drivers tho who do hundreds of miles a day mostly on highways.
Regular driving I would expect an engine to last at least 200k with regular preventive maintenance (oil changes, air filters, and swaping other fluids when needed) I'm currently at 38k... no problems with my engine. |

I am at 145,000km with no problems. Other than my car being accident prone!

This engine design has been around for a while prior to the Yaris, and it seems to be a typical Toyota motor. (I.E. Reliable and very durable)

I think most Yaris' can make it off the lot. After that it's a crap shoot.

I have 2 echos which is the same motor as yaris. My 2001 has over 150,000 miles and no problems at all. Probably will have to adjust valves and replace timing chain by 200,000 miles. I use synthetic Mobil 1 oil since it was new.

Mine's made it nearly 7000 miles!
The 1NZ-FE is the same engine that was used in the Echo and in early Scions. It is basically the same as the engine in the first two generations of the Prius. (The 1NZ-FXE Prius engine came first, and the Echo/Scion/Yaris engine was a minor modification of it.) It has a good service record. |

Hakan didn't say where he lives. The 1NZ-FE of which I spoke is the only engine used in the United States for the Echo, early Scions, and Yarises. The 1.3L 2NZ-FE is basically the same engine with a little shorter piston stroke. The 1L 1SZ engine is built by Daihatsu. The 1.4 liter turbo diesel's another option. None of those are available in the U.S. If the diesel were, I'd've bought one.

Really! Do you have any other information about it? How interesting.
You can rest assured that the ECHO/Yaris engine is one of if not the finest engine EVER made for a motor vehicle. Its durable, powerfull, and gives outstanding FE. |

With proper maintenance 300,000kms is easily obtainable with no major problems.I'd be more concerned about the body rusting before the engine gives you any problems,If you are planning to drive the car for 10+ years a yearly oil spraying will be money well spent in preservation of the body.

Toyota owns a big stake in Daihatsu. They've done a number of joint ventures.

There is a guy on you tube with over 300k in his. Just do a search for 300000 mile toyota on you tube and you'll find it. He is a medical courier, the only major thing he replaced besides oil changes, batteries, and brakes was his alternator.

Here is the link to the 300k plus yaris. And I was wrong about his brakes, he still has the originals.
