1nzfe and 2nzfe same air intake? - Toyota Yaris Forums

I just found out today the following similarities of 1NZ-FE (1.5L) with my 2NZ-FE (1.3L) engine:

Throttle Body - same part number (22030-21030)
Air Cleaner Rubber hose - same part number (17880-21091)
Air Filter Element - same part number (17801-21050)
Air Cleaner inlet pipe - same part number (17751-21160)

The only difference in the air intake is that 1.5L has additional carbon/charcoal filter fitted inside the top cover of the air cleaner. (The intake manifold is also not the same part number).

My questions:

1. If they have same part number, does it mean they are one and the same?
2. If the answer to no. 1 is "yes", does it mean I already have an oversize air filter/cleaner for my 1.3L engine?
3. If the answer to no. 1 and 2 is "yes", does it mean that other than getting better sounding engine, I will not gain anything if I change my air intake to SRI?

I appreciate all your expert opinion.

P.S. I would also like to see some feedback from those people who has same engine as mine but and already modified their air intake.

what could be the reasons?:
1. nobody here works in toyota?

2. my questions are so dumb?

my purpose really is to improve the performance of my 2nzfe by modifying the intake. moreover, I do not want to spend money and later on find out that I just wasted it for nothing.

I will say this. If the part numbers are the same between the 2 engines, then yes, both engines use the exact same part.
As for the performance for intake's, I did a dyno with stock filter and oem black box intake and got 86.3 whp.
I then swapped the Cold Air Intake from AEM within 15mins. Warmed up the motor again and dynoed it at 87.8 whp

For just a CAI upgrade only this is not a significant upgrade. But maybe upgrading exhaust manifold back will help improve later. Although some will argue for such a light car and low hp, every bit of hp counts. which is true also.

186?? wow, that's a pretty strong Yaris motor you've got there.

Did you post those dynos? I'd sure like to check them out. The curve is more important than the number.

OP, should be fine, as long as there is no difference in layout or space limitations (body/battery/etc.)

guys, thanks for the replies and the info.

1.5 whp increase using CAI looks promising to me. I am actually looking at SRI for easier installation but most probably that whp increase will go down.

Pretty sure SRI is good for low end gains and CAI is good for high end? or it might be the other way around..

AFE intake...best of both worlds..? Short ram, but comes with heat shield making it a cold air...

It was a great eight year run, but it was time to focus on other things. I'm still selling parts on eBay under micro*image seller ID and customers can still make requests for anything specific.
