Convert electric wing mirrors to heated?
Hi all,
I have a 2015 Yaris SX that I am slowly getting used to. I remember reading somewhere that it is possible to add a heating component to electric wing mirrors (plus instructions), but can't find it now. I did ask my Toyota service agent if it would be possible, but they said it would be horrendously expensive due to all the rewiring required. Any suggestions out there? I am technically challenged so would have to have it done by a pro/Toyota. Thanks. |

In many markets the Yaris is pre-wired for it, so you just have to add the heating elements to the mirrors. In a worst case you are only running two wires through the door.

Thanks for replying. Since I am in New Zealand (Australasia) I wouldn't think it would have been prewired. Any way it can be checked without dismantling the car?

If you can track down the wiring diagrams for your area you can be sure before popping panels.

This is how i did my 2010. There was no interest on this forum last time i posted it so it may not be as much help as i would have hoped.

I am not sure if all are, but it was available for some areas from 2012 on for French made ones.

Thanks Bairjo. No wonder the Toyota tech said it was expensive! I had hoped that since the mirrors already had electrical wiring, the wiring could be piggy-backed. Bummer :-( Thanks anyway. Cheers.

Again, it depends on year and area. You may be prewired

Exactly....Don't let my video discourage you on your efforts. My Yaris appeared to be semi pre wired. What I mean is that you may not need to do all the splicing and wire runs that I did. I clipped the wires at the kick plate wire harness since there was no power feeding it there.
Your Yaris may be ready to "plug and play". Just slap a few sticky pads on the back of the glass and run a pair of wires into the door. If I would have had that situation, the job would have been a snap, even though it really wasn't that bad as I did it. |

Thanks. I will see how the car deals with our winter (just around the corner) before I decide whether it is an essential or just a "want" :-). Cheers
