Nostalgic Subcompact: 1988-1992 Daihatsu Charade

Remember the '88-'92 Daihatsu Charade? Not a whole lot of people do, and not a whole lot of people knew it existed at the time, either.

Daihatsu's cars were good, but they were too expensive, and underpromoted.

I remember that car. I used to see one every other day back when I was a kid.

The neighbor shop to mine was working on one of them. The mechanics at my shop were laughing at it. We were what the heck a Daihatsu!

I almost bought on of the 1.0 liter ones a couple years ago at an auction, but the car went for $1,500. Which was more than the blue book value. Wanted a 2nd car but was hoping it would go for $500 or less.

In a few years we'll be driving 600cc cars. Keep in mind the Suzuki Alto and the Honda 600.

if it wasn't for seeing the diahtsu cars in the video game GT3 for ps2 I may not have bought a yaris.... i used to think it was hilarious to soup up a lil car that had less than 100hp stock and race it around.

I rented one of them in Grand Cayman in 1985, before they came to the U.S. I thought it a nice little car.
