Rode in the BACK of a Yaris Hatch Today!
A guy at work also has a 2008 Yaris hatch, he picked it up a few months ago as his long commute in his pick-up truck was costing him too much in gas.
Well, today we had a luncheon to go to, so I caught a ride with him. Being there were two other guys going, I hopped in the back. To my surprise, I found it comfortable and roomy! I am 6' 2" and a tad over 200lbs, so I'm never mistaken for being a Nigerian marathon runner. Even after owning a 2007 hatchback for over seven years, I've never ridden in the back of mine. Now I know why my two 6'+ teenagers can ride in the back of mine without complaint. By the way, this car has almost 210K miles on it. Mine only has 35K. I need to catch up! Cheers! M2

I've had 3 good sized male passengers in mine, but never sat back there myself either. To test it out, yes, but never on an actual drive.
35k on a 2008? You're doing great. I thought I was ahead of the game with 65k on my '07. |

Aye, the inside of the Yaris is far roomier than its exterior diminutive stature would suggest. Also, the roof slope isn't nearly as pronounced as it is with a sedan in the rear seating area.
The initial mental picture I had when I read the title of this thread was you crammed into the little hatch/trunk storage area, with the seats up. |

The Yaris is taller than most other cars at almost 60 inches, so that's why they're roomy. I remember the old Ford Pintos of the 1970s. They were quite low, like sitting in a go cart. The back seat was so bad, it felt like you were sitting on the floor with your knees up, almost against the front seat.

That's my '76 Pinto "Stallion" hatchback I had from around 79-81. I drove the hell out of that car, but very rarely was the backseat not folded down as it was my surfmobile and I rarely carried anyone else other than young ladies in the passenger seat!
