I just purchased a 2007 Yaris 3D hatchback. It was not sold with keyless entry but when I check on http://www.epc-data.com/. based on the VIN, it says that it has wireless doorlock with a wireless receiver, OEM part # 89741-52240, does this mean that I can easily add keyless entry by buying a FOB & programming it? It has power door locks.

In theory it is that simple. You may want to look behind the panel just below the C pillar on the driver's side to verify that the receiver is really there.

So, "in theory" if the receiver is there, I could buy a Keyless Entry Remote Fob and follow this procedure to program it? (I know you can't make promises)
The driver’s door open and unlocked. Key out of the ignition. 1. Insert and remove the key from the ignition switch 2 times within 5 seconds. NOTE: Steps 2 and 3 should be performed within 40 seconds. 2. Close and open driver’s door TWICE. 3. Insert the key into the ignition and remove it. NOTE: Steps 4 – 6 should be performed within 40 seconds. 4. Close and open the driver’s door twice. 5. Insert the key into the ignition. 6. Close the door. 7. Turn the ignition switch from “Lock” to “On” and back to “Lock” at about 1 second intervals to select the desired mode: -1 time for ADD mode. -2 times for REWRITE mode. -3 times for CONFIRMATION mode. -5 times for PROHIBITION mode. 8. Remove the key from the ignition. 9. To confirm your mode selection, the power locks will now cycle “lock” to “unlock” a number of times corresponding to your key cycles in step 7. NOTE: If Confirmation or Prohibition modes have been selected, opening the door will complete the procedure. 10. For Add or Rewrite modes do the following within 40 seconds of Door Lock confirmation: A. Press both transmitter Lock and Unlock buttons simultaneously between 1 and 1.5 seconds and release. B. Within 3 seconds of step A, press the transmitter Lock button for more than 1 second and release. If the transmitter has been successfully programmed, the power locks will cycle “lock” to “unlock” once at this time. If there are problems with the transmitter or the procedure up to this point, the locks will cycle twice. If this occurs, verify that you have received the correct transmitter, and then repeat the above procedure. C. If multiple remotes are to be reprogrammed, repeat steps A and B. 11. Open the driver’s door to conclude programming mode. |

That is really how you program a new key or you just messing with us, lol? The dealer charges $175 to program a key, I thought it was done with a programmer or something.

That's how you program the remote. Programming a transponder key (the chip in the key kind) requires the Toyota TechStream system to program.

How about the key itself, can a locksmith cut the key or does Toyota have to do that too?

Put your left foot in,
Your left foot out, Your left foot in, And shake it all about. You do the hokey pokey And turn yourself around. Now put your right foot in, Your right foot out, Right foot in And shake it all about. And then you do the hokey pokey Turn yourself around, Now your keyless remote fob is programmed. I told a friend about this procedure, open the door close the door turn the key to here, turn it back etc. etc. she thought I was joking too. |

Cutting the key can be done by a locksmith without a problem.

Ok, I tried to program my new key today using the above procedure and it's not working. I get to step 9 and the locks cycle once to indicate "add" mode. But after I hold both lock and unlock, then lock. Nothing happens after that. The instructions say that the locks should cycle once if it worked and twice if there is a problem. It does neither for me.
Also, can some one tell me what the different modes are for. Obviously "ADD" means to add a remote? What does "CONFIRMATION", "PROHIBITION", and "REWRITE" modes do? Thanks!

while retaining the previously registered codes. This mode is used when new transmitters are added. If the number of registered codes exceeds 4, the previously registered codes will be erased in order, starting from the first registered code. • Rewrite Mode is used to erase all the previously registered recognition codes in order to register new recognition codes. This mode is used when the transmitter or the door control receiver is replaced with a new one. • Confirmation Mode is used to confirm how many recognition codes have already been registered before any additional recognition codes are registered. • Prohibition Mode is used to erase all the registered codes and disable the wireless door lock function. This mode is used when the transmitters are lost

Thanks CTScott, that helps a lot!
So I am thinking I got the wrong key fob for my Yaris since I cant get it to program at all. Does anyone know what the correct part number would be for a FOB with electronics for a 2007 Sedan?

well poop. I bought a 89070-52730 and it wont program. Any suggestions on why the Yaris wont program it? I followed the instructions exactly, tried it like 10 times.
The description says it must be programmed by a Toyota dealer but I am assuming they would just be performing the procedure listed above? http://www.amazon.com/Keyless-Remote...433742&sr=8-1&

My original remote works fine, I swapped the electronics into a new shell, the original shell started coming apart. I was hoping to finally after all these years get a second fob so both my wife and I have one just wont seem to take.

Also, inside of the transmitter there should be a label on the electronics. Compare your old and new ones. For example, the key that I have on hand (that came with a steering column that I bought off ebay for a project), says: Tokai Rika MDL B44TA ETC094LPD0451 05015/POSTEL/2007 2344
