Wiring Problem; Help is greatly appreciated

So I was going about removing the stock radio to replace it with a pioneer head unit. we had spliced the wires and it was getting dark.. my friend rubber banded the wires together for neatness... so next day i turn on the car in the morning and i hear an electrical spark and it sounded like it came from the wires so i saw the situation and unbanded them. I didn't know at this point if i had messed anything up or just clicked em. So we go install my head unit and it doesn't seem to work. Here we are thinking maybe we put the wrong wires together and after double checking, I soon realize my dome/map lights don't work anymore. So now I have my dome/map lights and my radio not getting power whatsoever. Everything else works fine though like my trunk light etc. I am stumped at this point; could my complete wiring have been fried when the wires all touched?

Any solutions/insight anything at all really would be great from some of our electrical techs here. Thank you for reading.

First off, it sounds like you popped your DOME fuse, which is in the under dash fuse panel. It supplies power to the dome light, as well as unswitched power to the radio. Most radios won't power up without the backup power being supplied, as well as the ACC switched power.

I wouldn't have the stereo hooked up when you replace the fuse, I'd do another visual check and make sure no wires are touching, or stripped, the metal back there is pretty sharp, so make sure nothing is grounded. After that i'd turn the key and again do a visual inspection of the wires, make sure nothing is smoking and that the fuse doesn't pop again, after this then i'd hook up the Stereo and hopefully the problem is solved.

when you say splice Carlos.... does that mean you didn't buy a harness? i recommend picking one up, they're cheap (wal mart is the cheapest) and will virtually prevent this problem from occurring again. a little solder and shrink tube will go a long way too.
