YARIS REACHES 20 000 SALES MILESTONE IN SOUTH AFRICA

A hatchback version of the Yaris was launched in November last year, followed by a sedan model in March. A 1,3-litre four-cylinder petrol engine powers all these variants. The previous quickest ramp up in sales by a new nameplate was the Toyota Tazz, which was launched in August 1996 and took 11 months to sell 20 000 units. Another fairly fast start up came from the Volkswagen Polo, which was introduced in January 1998 and reached 20 000 sales 17 months later.
