I've used both, I'm currently using the carbon box now. Both are great intakes, I love the sound and ease of install. There are some downsides to it though, my AFE experience is constant CEL, and the Simota I can never find a replacement filter when i need to clean it out. I'm leaning more towards simota just because i'm using it now, and the carbon look in your engine bay is a beautiful thing.

I've had an AFE on mine for nearly 30k miles. Never had a CEL or anything from it.
Come to think of it, I probably should clean that guy.

I was using the simolta intake awhile ago, but after i changed to a lightened flywheel..i changed back to the stock box(with drop-in filter).
The simolta intake does make a very nice noise. Only issue i find is that the box covers up almost 1/2 of the filter since the placement of the filter is towards the back of the box. I have also run it in on the roads for a couple of months and taken it to a dyno, you might want to do some tuning with this intake becos it really messes up the AFR. |

Mine may not be the Simota you are referring to but I have had the one pictured in my garage on for almost 5 years now without any issues.

No that's most likely the old carbon "charger" intake. They redesigned it similar to the power chamberthat has been around for a while.

That's the intake that I have. Although the CF box is very nice to look at, it doesn't offer great fitment. There's a lot of rubbing with the battery and the driver's side headlamp.
Not only that, but I decided to take the box out a few weeks ago and the car breathes that much better too. I think you should go for the aFe simply because there's no box to deal with. This will let more air in and it should be that much easier to clean the filter regularly.

The filter aFe sells shouldn't be all that different from any other filter. I suggest that you use the one that comes with the aFe solution for a few weeks. You can always decide to swap it for something else and sell it on the forums if you're not 100% convinced.
