Does anyone else have a hell of a time locking/unlocking their hatch? Sometimes it feels like the key is stuck and it drives me bananas. It'll take me 2 minutes of fidgeting to get it to lock. Just wondering if I was the only one.

LOL no. The keyhole literally gets stuck. Feels like I'm using another Yaris's key.

I would avoid the use of WD-40 in just about any application as it attracts dust. You're better off with a "dry" lubricant such as a graphite-based or teflon-based one.

you're not the only one. first, i don't like that i have to take the key out of the ignition to access my hatch. second, i hate standing there like an idiot who doesn't know how to get into my own car when i can't get the key to turn. it seems pretty random, however, and lately it's been working fine but every now and then........

yeah, I get the same thing. I swear even if I don't install power locks in the front doors I'm doing some kind of release mechanism for the damn hatch!

lol, i hated it so much.. i never really locked the hatch door. At one point (i had the echo hatch back in the days), i removed the hatch panel, which exposed the locking mechanism... so i never had to close the hatch and use the key again to lock it.

I have the same damn issue.. I can lock the sob fine but takes me like 10 mins to get the key to turn and unlock.. least now I know I was just not being a tard about it.

I take it you guys don't have power locks? I never have to use the key for my hatch as it unlocks with the other doors

And to add some use to this post - as Bailout said - use a dry lubricant like graphite on any key lock.

I agree with Bladesmith6. Having a remote manual "trunk" release would be super! That was one of my most used conveniences on my 2001 Pontiac Grand Am! Come on....they have a manual cable type gas filler cap release, why didn't Toyota put one on the hatch! There is a lot of brains, mechanical knowledge and ingenuity on this forum....somebody could come up with a simple release mechanism.

I do but last winter even that stopped working. The problem was the same as ever- dirt trapped in the keyhole. Cleaned that up and remote locking started working again. I'm thinking of putting a cover on the keyhole to keep it clean seeing that I never use the key anyway.

I believe that the wiring is in place for the power lock for the hatch. The simplest way to have a remote unlock would be electrical, rather than mechanical, particularly if the wiring is there. You could buy a single A1 actuator and trigger it with a momentary pushbutton switch (or rocker for lock/unlock) mounted someplace convenient up-front (and maybe a second lock button in the cargo area). If you want to give that a shot, let me know and I'll scope out the wiring...
