Yaris 2007 acceleration problems
Hi, this is actually my first time on a forum.
So I just bought a Toyota Yaris 2007 Automatic with 100000km for 2900$CAD, bought it with only the brakes that need to be changed. Recently I've been driving and once I tried to accelerate and it felt like powerless, it took more time than usually to go to the desired speed. also the check engine logo appeared. Ps: I'm 17 this is my first car and I don't know a thing about cars I just knew that yaris were good so idk. Please just tell me what I should do, take it to a mechanic or idk. Thanks. |

Welcome!
If the check engine light is on then you need to start with OBD diagnostics. You can do it for yourself (just buy some bluetooth ELM327 dongle worth a few bucks and use OBD scan tool software for a smartphone. This software can read engine error log and display what is wrong. |

If Canada has Auto Zone they will hook up OBD reader to your car for free. You need to have CEL diagnosed first thing.

Canadian Tire always has cheap ones on sale. Get one. Between yourself, family, friends and neighbours it will easily become the most valuable pay for itself tool you will ever acquire. Hell, the first read more than pays for it. Also, watch your dash cluster. For as long as the cool engine light is on, the engine/tranny operate in a 'retarded' state until desired operating temps are reached and the light goes out. Hopefully it storing freeze frame data from the CEL coming on.
Get a code reader mate. Best thing you'll ever get. I can recommend autel scanners. I'm very satisfied with mine.

I was under the impression that Auto Value and PartSource both can read codes for free. Maybe it's changed recently. Could always call your local Auto Value or PartSource to be sure. If not you can always get a cheap OBDII code reader from Amazon or eBay for around $20.

If you are driving nearby, we can meet and I can read it for you. Unfortunately Czech Republic is little bit off the path... :D
