Edit:
Link fixed. I thought short shifters combined a shorter throw along with a shorter stick shift shaft. Likewise, I assume quick shifters are intended to reduce the throw, but does not alter the height of the stick shift shaft.. So Quick Shifter is the same as a Short Shifter?

I can't tell by your expression, but is this a bad price or a great price?

This is what I've been wiating for, a short throw that doesn't reduce stick height. It is a bit expensive though considering it doesn't even come with a new stick... WTF?

Just broke down and ordered some TRD absorbers from Sparks. While I was on the line with Ken, I asked the price of the short throw without the knob. Still expensive but not as bad. $135 without the knob. Part #PTR2552060

for the life of me I do not see how that little chunk of metal would affect the throw?

I agree. However, I'm 6'2" and have tried "short throw" shifters on other cars. I know how uncomfortable they can be. Someone else on the forum mentioned having the same problem. The reach to the shorty stick is awkward and uncomfortable. Having to lean and reach forward in my seat to shift into 1st, 3rd, and 5th gears is not something I want to deal with. I don't know off-hand what the decrease in throw is with the TDM shifters but 30% for the TRD sounds pretty good to me. I just want some tightness!!!

I believe it changes the fulcrum point of the stick by moving that point downward or sideways or whatever is required in the shift housing. At least this is how it worked on my old porsche. Short/Quick Shifters with a shorter stick can usually claim an even shorter throw because they cut off the top half of the stick thereby eliminting that extra inch or so of throw.

I seriously want to throw up.
No, really, I just had a quarter of an ice cream cake. That price is also fucking outrageous. OUTRAGEOUS. We need an aftermarket company that makes short shifters w/ the plastic cage... everything... the whole freekin' assembly. I'll bet it wouldn't be any more expensive than that $165 metal cube. |
