08 sedan rear speaker install

I'm trying to install 6x9's in my yaris' rear deck. I took everything apart before realizing I needed to fabricate a mounting bracket. I bought a piece of 1/2" MDF and was wondering if this was going to be too thick to fit under the factory speaker guards

Im not sure if 1/2" will fit, but 1/4" will.

1/2" seems very thick for the space there is, plus you have to install the speaker on top.

I made the brackets out of the 1/2" and it worked fine. I wanted to use the stock screws and holes so I had to thin the edges so the screws could reach through.

Does anyone know the part number for the plastic clips that hold the trim panels to the rear pillars? I broke one and lost one putting everything back together.

For mine i ended up gutting the factory speaker to leave just the outer ring and i tack welded in the new speakers to that

Kinda random...but i had it all tore apart on a late saturday at my old job (muffler shop)...so i made it happen. Been almost 5 years like that

I used the same technique on the front speakers in my chevy cobalt. But I don't have metal working tools so I had to make it out of mdf on the yaris. It was fun but took me a full day.
