Coolant sitting low (3 door 2007 Yaris)
While filling the windshield wiper fluid reservoir, i noticed that the pink engine coolant was sitting pretty low, just above the low level line on the indicator. 89,000 miles on it currently. Should I add a bit more coolant to fill it up to the full line and if so, what's the one to get? What does Toyota use originally? Does the cold effect coolant levels? Thanks for any help.

It does evaporate a bit over time, so that is likely why it is a bit low.
Toyota uses their own long life coolant, which is available pre-mixed at the parts department. Topping off the overflow container is not a bad idea. Also, while the car is cold, remove the radiator hose cap and verify that it is full as well.

If you're somewhere slightly warmer than freezing you can just top it up with distilled water. After a few cycles it'll be all mixed in and be fine with freezing temps again. You just don't want to add it in and have it freeze in the tank.

You don't want to mix antifreeze types, as some will react with each other and form precipitates that can clog up the radiator. So, it is best to stick with the OEM fluid, unless you are doing a full flush, then you can switch to non-OEM.
