Aussie Muzza in the USA
Mrs Muzza and I have just returned from three weeks in the USA. As the majority of the forum members seem to reside there I thought that I would post some comments.
We stayed at Los Angeles, Anaheim, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Pismo Beach and Waikiki. We visited all the usual attractions like, Universal Studios, Disneyland, Santa Monica, Grand Canyon, Yosemite SP, Alcatraz, Pearl Harbour, The Big Island, San Diego and Mexico. We found the money to be confusing as the notes are all much the same colour and the coins are not logically sized. Even though we obviously speak english we has great difficulty communicating, at times, due to our accents. We discovered that we speak too fast and with too much Aussie slang. The food was fantastic but the portions, to us, were huge. Food was generally cheaper than Aus but once you add tax and tip it is about the same. Even though tipping is not the culture in our country we adapted to it. We drove from San Francisco to LA and adapted reasonably well to the "wrong side" of the road. We found drivers to be fairly impatient with a lot of horn tooting. We were surprized with the number of poor people begging in the streets and every day gave away our change. We saw some fantastic cars that we just do not get at home such as Mustangs, Chargers, Camaros, Ferraris, Lambos and the big "F" trucks like the 150 and 250. We spotted a Bugatti Veyron in a dealership in Hollywood. In Hawaii we spotted some great tricked up utes/pickups with high lift suspensions. We saw a few Yaris sedans but I don't recall seeing a hatch back at all. The Prius is far more common than in Aus. Our overall impression was of a vast country where everything is on a grand scale, bearing in mind that the population of California is a third bigger than the whole of Aus. The most important memory we take home is that the American people are extremely polite and friendly - except for one or two taxi drivers. Thank you, my friends, for the memories. regards muz |
