July 2015 Yaris Sales: Up

For the eight month in a row, Toyota Yaris sales in the U.S. are up. For July, 2015, sales were up 104.5% compared to July 2014; 1,403 units were sold. Year-to-date sales are up 52.9% compared to 2014 with a total of 14,091 units sold.

Not sure why the spike in sales. More rental cars? Public really likes the styling? Most small car sales are down, but the Yaris keeps improving.

For total subcompact car sales, see this link.

The +1 on the 14,091 units sold is mine! It's finally due to be delivered from CO to me here in AZ by truck this coming weekend.

Toyota sure made me jump through hellish hoops to get a manual 5-speed Yaris SE. Here is what one of the AZ dealerships sent me recently regarding obtaining a manual 5-spd Yaris locally:

---------------------------------------------------------------------
"The reason why they are not sending15 Yaris SE M/T is a regional issue. Each region has to maintain at least 20 years of replacement parts for every trim level sold. The Denver Region Arizona is in selects most of the vehicles based on demand and if the parts can be cross applied to other Toyota products.

Unfortunately the Yaris 5 Speed M/T is specific to the Yaris, Yaris is not a high demand vehicle, nor is it a profitable vehicle. Therefore, Denver Region does not to sell 15 Yaris M/T. That vehicle is in a limited production status in California and the Mid-West.

I would recommend that you go with the A/T Yaris SE versus the M/T. Price I can give you same for price as the M/T for the A/T. The reason why is repair and maintenance of the vehicle. Since Denver Region is not selling 15 Yaris M/T, you can expect to see delays from waiting for replacement parts.

Let me know which direction you want to go?"
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Every car I have ever owned has been a Honda-Acura manual, and I have yet to have a failed clutch or transmission even at 200k miles on them. According to all statistics that I have seen, Toyota vehicles are even more reliable than Honda, overall, so I will take the risk and wait longer for manual-specific parts in the very unlikely event that I ever have a problem.

Great news!!!!!! I love the current styling of the Yaris and am picking up a 16 SE before Mazda gets their sticky fingers on the next generation.

I can only imagine all the new (and unnecessarily) "tech bloat" that will be added to the 2017 Yaris revamp. Just look at the new 2016 Scion iA and the iM, if you want a preview.

And he's right. The 5MT SE is a hard-to-find unit. I can't get one here, either. I'd need to go to Cali, but then I'd have to pay their sales tax. It'd be unlikely I'd spring for one because of this.

Plus, I'm not eager to purchase a vehicle with a direct-injection engine in its current state of design evolution/development. It's a more problematic engine, will require more maintenance/service, and shouldn't even be using added-ethanol gasoline at all - which is all they have in AZ and the most of the rest of the USA unfortunately. It's just not worth the headache IMO, for a few extra MPG and a bit more HP. I would rather just see a slightly beefier HP version of the current Yaris engine in the newer Yaris model (only for the SE, if nothing else), and a finally-upgraded 5/6 speed automatic (since the current older-school 4-speed auto freaks most people out who want automatics). Also, a 6-speed manual instead of a 5 would be nice. Not much else I would change over the 2015/2016 from a core mechanical standpoint.
