Rear wiper: EZ mod so it pulls back all the way

Yet another of the posts that was lost with the site hack ...This is a real quick fix that will allow the rear LB wiper to pull back the way a wiper should so you can clean the window.

There's a plastic cover at the base of the rear wiper. It's an inch or two long. You can remove that cover by just pulling it off ...or with your fingers spread the sides of the cover outward a little and then remove it. If you then flip the cover over, you'll see this little tab:

Using your fingers or a needle nosed pliars, pry that little tab back and forth a few times and it'll pull or twist/pull off:

The cover will snap back in place at the base of the rear wiper arm, and NOW the wiper can be pulled back when you want to wash the window. I did this many months ago and have had no problems at all. The wiper works just fine. I have no idea why Toyota put that tab there.

Here's the rear wiper with the cover back in place after the tab was removed:

OK, it's not a fancy mod - shouldn't really even be called a mod, since it's not like adding a turbo or something. But it does make washing the car a helluva lot easier :)

Good info! I was really wondering why I couldn't pull it back all the way...

Why'd Toyota do that in the first place?

Some crazy American regulation/feature. My Panamanian Yaris doesn't have it.

I did it, too. Makes it easier to clean the rear window.

Someone said on the last post that it was to keep it from blowing back and possibly snapping off due to high pressures of.. lets say a carwash or something. I don't know, whatever MORE POWER TO YW

It has to do with carwashes. Something about it being able to recoil back, blah blah blah.

From a post in the Yaris secrets thread:

I can see the carwash reason. However, I don't bring my car through automated carwashes anyway (with the exception of one automated wash down the street, but that's only during the winter months when I don't have time to do it myself).
