Pioneer AVH-P4000DVD

I'm looking to purchase this unit. The Pioneer website says it will play divx format on cd/dvd. I'm curious if anyone knows if it will play videos from an external hard drive. I have a Western Digital 150G portable hard drive.

If I wanted to get my dvd library on this what software would I need to rip the dvds and convert them to w/e format I might need. What's the best for simplicity/functionality/free(preferably)?

Thanks for any info you can give!

I am currently using P4000DVD, haven't really tried playing Divx files, but I'll try and let you know.

As for the hard drive, P4000DVD doesn't support it. When I tried plugging in my portable hard drive, it just gives me error aka not readable.

It does come with USB input cable as default, but not for iPod cable, which you really need to get if you ever wanted to run an iPod control from your headunit. I assumed the default USB cable was able to control my iPod, but I was wrong.

the usb input only supports up to 8gb flash drives or jump drives or something like that it says in the manual. i would burn them to a dvd that is because you can only watch it while the parking brake is up or do a by pass so you can watch it whenever which requires u to build a negative trigger relay since it needs to see power first then ground

all you need is a relay and on pins 86, 87 ground and pin 85 use the amp turn on and pin 30 goes to the parking brake wire. ive been running on it fine with no problems and avic411.com dosnt really help much cause its more towards avic models not the lower stuff

Hey battleversiontc, I got my p4000dvd installed with the relay just like you explained it. Found a picture somewhere else before I really figured it out. But anywayz... it works! but I have some fuzzy static in the background now. Any idea what it might be from? Only things I did differently with this install from the one before is the relay and grounding straight to battery.
