stock speakers are terrible, just look!

these are the front stock speakers from my 09 Type S compared to my stock front speakers from my Scion tC!

and yes I replaced my front speakers with the ones from the Scion.

cutting corners here and there saves you the money you should have spent if it came with all the amenities of the TC. the cost of the yaris is the reason I bought it.

yes I agree 100%

I was just showing the difference - that's all. Also it gives people who haven't pulled their door panel off or replaced the speakers a chance to see what's there!

BTW the Yaris speakers cost more!

Just got off the phone with two different dealerships.

Yaris front speaker each
$133.62
Toyota part # 86160-B58

Scion tC front speaker each
$124.13
Toyota part # 86160-33620

hmmm quality, price????? no I don't want to start a debate!

this is info only - besides who would pay that ridiculous price for 6.5 speakers? For $250 bucks I can get a pretty awesome name brand set (not saying Pioneer isn't name brand - their stuff too).

performance wise they are a little cleaner sounding. But that could just be me. I have a Pioneer Avic F900BT headunit and I crank it up all the time (which pretty much plugs into the stock harness).

Anyhow I attribute sound quality difference due to more solid construction. First the mounting plate is not tabbed and has more support which eliminates the speaker from flexing in its mount during high volume. Second, just look at the magnet/basket support - need I say more?

Too add to the seeing what's there on the door panel:

...Yeah, I put the stock speakers back in...

I'm waiting until april to install 8.5" midbass speakers in the door. I'm trying to decide whether they will mount on the panel or on the door itself...

The size of a magnet tells about as much about the performance of a speaker as my breath does about the weather.

people like to compare size of magnets all the time... IT SAYS SQUAT... It's actually desirable to have weak magnets at times.... and small doesn't always mean weak. The strongest magnets in the world (neo) are found on speakers... and the magnet sizes are tiny.

Alnico is a very expensive magnet that some people will pay extra for. Some people swear by them.

The yaris' stock speakers are crap.... not cause of the size of the magnet, but due to its outdated motor design which gives a poor Bl curve, lack of x-max, and lack of a quality crossover. But that's the case with probably 99.99% of stock speakers.... and about 70% of Aftermarket speakers.

Oh... and chrome colored plastic doesn't make subs any louder or better either.

I have 5.25's in the doors now. I wanted 6.5's but when I ordered from Crutchfield they said there would be clearance issuse with 6.5s hitting the window glass. I've had that problem on another car and I could feel the window snap over the speaker everytime I raised and lowered....
I don't want to image my auto down drivers P/W slamming into a speaker...

many people have put 6.5's in the doors. I even know of a guy who's put in 8's.

serious... buddy of mine about 18 months ago were telling me that the shop he works at has put 8" midbass's (think they were kickers) in the stock locations on at least one yaris. He worked at a Car Toys in Tacoma/Federal way area (think South of Seattle). Haven't talked to him for a long time... see him motoring about facebook tho.
