Why won't Toyota USA give us the TS?

I really wanted one of these with the 1.8. It looks like that tacky dress up package is as close as it's gonna get.

What's their excuse?

car companies do this all the time. every other markets gets the cars as they should be we just get watered down versions low on power or never at all. the exception was the Wrx sti JDM one had like 260-280 hp while the usdm one had 300hp.

As far as why, beats me

I am "guessing" its because Americans buy the powerful cars like Corvettes, and in general have/HAD plenty of money for gas Toyota and others ship their go faster models that America is NOW interested in because of our economy. It just "Shows" to go "Ya"!

The JDM sti cylinders are sleeved. There are lame emissions or engine power laws in Japan where almost every (fast) car on paper is 280 HP via choking the engine with smaller pipping. USDM Sti just has bigger numbers but the motor is not better. Japan wouldn't play themselves like that.

the #'s were like that due to a gentleman's agreement.

the cars put out more power (well some did).

Japan agreed not to get into a Horsepower war. Probably a big reason why they have built small, HP, good emissions motors.

the USDM STi didn't need to comply, and the US Market tends to like bigger motors with more torque.

the 2.5ltr STI motor has inferior heads and turbo to the JDM/EDM 2.0ltr STI.

There are plenty of Tuning Shops in Japan picking up the 2.5ltr block and building it.

the Forester STi in Japan came with the 2.5ltr STI motor we see here in the states.

Recently this has been changed, AFAIK, most of the newer and "peppier" (GT-R, etc) cars that Japan is putting out come with a natural speed limiter in them. Making where they cant hit above a preset speed limit, but this is GPS controlled so it will simply turn off in areas that the Gov't has deemed appropriate (race courses).

In quick reference, you can accelerate as fast as you want, technically...even though there are prolly some laws against that, but once you hit a certain top speed, your electronically goverened there.

Note that these conditions are straight from the showroom, you can have a shop remove the device, and it often done to "free" your new monster of a car.

It was rated at 280 hp (gentlemen's agreement in japan) but made more than that. Some say over 300hp some say a lil' under but either way it was underrated.

I thought the Gentlemens agreement, on paper and contract anyways, was expired. Now it is just by word that they will agree to it, Don't quote me but I thought that was the case. Everybody knows cars they built had way more then the agreement anyways lol. The Skyline was more like 320-330 hp right along with the Supra being way more then 280.

Yeah 3000GT, Supra, STi, 300ZX, EVO they were all rated at 280hp... but put out well over that. The supra here was rated at 320hp I think

Supra TT was rated at 300 BHP the last I remember

IMO cars like TS will start picking up as these big SUVs and other unnecessary large vehicles continue to disappear. Just sit tight and wait

Right, even the 3000gt VR4 here in the states was rated at 320 hp and 300lb tq. Even though it was heavy as can be, with the awd and those numbers together the thing is a beast.

we have the xD, US doesn't like small cars as it is on a wide scale, putting more competition in their own ranks would make no sense for toyota unfortunately, unlike in japan
