Took my Yaris to the 1/4 mile track...
I took my Yaris LB to Renegade Raceway's 1/4mile track for test & tune night. There wasn't a lot of people there, so I got about 8 runs in. I took out the front passenger and rear seats, spare tire & tools, and just about anything I could quickly get out. I had about 3/4 tank. If I had been thinking I would not have put so much gas in when I got back from the Scion cruise up Mt. St. Helens. I had a lot of fun. Lost every race, but some of the cars I was up against were 13 sec. cars. A stock yaris auto can do the quarter mile in 17.8 sec @ 76.8mph. My best time was 17.356 sec @ 78.46mph. I know I would have done WAY better with Chino's intake, but with my only "performance" mods being the TRD muffler and NST pulley, I say that's not a bad time. I did manage to launch better than all my opponents, always came out of the start line ahead. A co-worker was in the stands and watched me do 3 runs, even managed to get a video. As soon as I get the pics/video I will post them here. I know I was probably one of the slowest cars there, but I had a lot of fun and launched really well. And most importantly, it wasn't on the street.

lol
When a ricer/racer pulls out the seats and spare tire and jack to drop vehicle weight it's considered cool and understandable. When a hypermiler does the same thing it's "over the top" or insane. Go figure.

Ah well, the day when we see Import Tuner and such magazines start to drool half as much over MPG figures as they do over HP figures, it will be a step in that direction
Funnily enough, I don't see that happening anytime soon...

Nah, when you start wearing only a thong to lower the unsprung weight that is a different story.

LOL, very funny! The lil yaris actually launched well, the "huff huff" was towards the end. Love the "comic" though.

Yeah, everyone there said they hadn't seen a Yaris race before, and a few people had never seen a Yaris before. (Not common 'round here.) I don't know what my HP and tq are right now, I know what it is stock. My TRD exhaust was used as a dyno test unit, and it added 2+hp, and the NST added 2-6hp (est). Once I get the Short|Sucka intake I'll take my car to a dyno shop, and give the 1/4 mile another shot.

It doesn't matter what the other drivers think or say at the track or otherwise. The bottom line is this, there are those who do, and those who do not. You being there at the track shows which group you belong to. Your 60 foot launches look great. What times are you running through the 60?

Drag DR-4 Gloss Black alloy wheels with Nitto NeoGen ZR high performance all-season tires. The wheels are 17"x7" with a 40+mm offset and a four bolt pattern, 4x(100/114.3). The wheels are 10 spoke and weigh about 16.5 lbs. The Nitto tires are 215/40 ZR17 NeoGen ZR M+S all season performance tires. I got my fastest run when I dropped my PSI from 50 to about 25. Would have gone lower but I wanted to make it back home safely!

Sorry to burst your bubble and I'm in no way trying to defend the Yaris as a fast 1/4 racer, but a stock Nissan Titan does not run the 1/4 in the 14 second range. It actually runs a mid 15 which is still very respectable. I'm also a Titan owner and I've done my homework believe me. My name is Clash4X4 on TitanTalk.com. |
