Auxiliary Input Help
I bought my 2008 Yaris Liftback in August 2008 brand new. The stereo I got is a Toyota 11808 and it has Disc-Aux button on it but I did not get the Auxiliary jack. I would like to listen to my ipod through the car stereo and speakers but I am not sure what I can connect to the toyota stereo to do this. I dont really care much for the cd player if I can somehow disconnect the cd player in the stereo and replace it with the auxiliary jack wire for my ipod that would also be an option. Some help would be much appreciated :).

You'll need the auxiliary input jack itself. Hopefully your Yaris is pre-wired for this or you'll need to make a "harness" to connect the aux jack to the head unit. Why didn't you just buy an aftermarket head unit? Pioneer, Eclipse, Alpine, Sony, etc. all have head units that have RCA or 3.5mm auxiliary inputs on them.

Mine (a 2007 Canadian sedan) was pre-wired from the stereo HU to the auxiliary jack location, complete with the plug to connect to the auxiliary jack part.
If you have the hatchback, just pop up the trim around your gear shifter to see if you have a little grey plug with four wires attached to it. If the grey plug is down there, you should be in business. I got an aux jack from my neighbourhood Toyota dealer for about $30 CDN. |

First let me say thanks for you replies :), your help is much appreciated. I popped up the trim around the gear shifter and i found 2 plugs. 1 small one and 1 big one. Is this where i would add the auxiliary input jack itself and then buy an auxiliary cable that would plug up to this input jack and my ipod? I took pictures of the 2 plugs next to the gear box i will post them here in a minute.

If the "plug" you speak of look like a headphone input then you can just take any 1/4" audio cable that plug 'er in. The kind you find with small computer speakers. I guess we'll wait for the pics to know exactly what you speak of

I just noticed that also have a 3rd plug. It was hidden to the right side. It is grey and it its a little smaller than the large white plug and bigger than the small white plug.

I'll post some pics for you tomorrow, but I think plug #3 sounds like the right one.

I called toyota and they told me the auxiliary input jack itself would cost me 104 dollars. Its crazy 104 dollars for just the input jack. Im just waiting on the pics to make sure i have the right plug. How did you get your auxiliary input jack for 30 dollars Dave?

I dunno why yours is so expensive; that is craziness. When I ordered mine, the guy actually made a point of mentioning that the price had just been reduced from 80-some down to the $30 I paid. He also said something about it being superseded by a different part number, but was still able to find it using the part number below. Maybe check another dealer in your area, and make sure the first dealer isn't trying to sell you the iPod connection kit?
Here are pics of the part I bought - 86190-53010: front front - behind flap, showing 3.5mm stereo connection side back And the plug, pre-wired in the car, shown at the sedan location. As you found, on the hatchback it should be around the gear shifter. This is harness D75, I believe, if you want to be technical. Note the four wires - 2 red, 1 green, 1 grey- and the grey plug. |

I think the grey plug i found in my car is that exact one. Its crazy how u got your plug for 30 dollars, mine is going to cost 104 :(. But the part number is different. The one they are offering me is 8619052040. Thanks for the pictures dave

That's also nuts that it's more expensive in the US than in Canada. Usually we pay through the teeth for car stuff. And he definitely said that the old price he had on file was around $85, which is still cheaper than your price. You could pretty much buy an aftermarket stereo for $104.
The part number difference must be what my dealer had mentioned. I'd have to go check the invoice in the glove box to see what the final part number was, but that 52040 number looks familiar. |

Thanks for the clarification. That is good to know, but unfortunate for Oned.

2-Red 1-Black 1-White 1-Grey are the wires connected to it. Do you think if i gave them part number 86190-53010, the one you got, i would be able to use it for my plug?

You could actually make your own for a couple of dollars. Pin 1 - White - Left Audio Pin 2 - Red - Right Audio Pin 3 - Black - Audio Ground Pin 4 - Red - Input Switch (Connect to ground {pin 3} to enable aux on radio) Pin 5 - Grey - Shield Buy one of these for $2.49, and install it in a more practical place than the OEM one (like in the driver's glove box): http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...51&tab=summary |
