Talking Computer geeks needed! Want to upgrade my RAM.

Hi all. I have a HP Pavilion ZV6000 and I'd like to upgrade my memory.

Here's NewEgg's list of memory available for this PC. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...aphics)&DEPA=0

Is there any difference in these? What should I look for?

Thanks!

Also, I'm playing World of Warcraft on this PC. Is there any other cheap upgrade that would yield better FPS?

What do you mean by mixing memory speeds?

Crucial, corsair, PQi, PNY are all good brands.

mixing memory speed has no bad side effects, as long as it meets the minimum requirements. In your case, it's DDR333 aka PC2700.

btw, the ram for your aging laptop is VERY expensive. You might want to just live with the performance of your computer or find your ram used (very rare). Otherwise, i'd suggest you to start saving money and get a new one.

While PK's comments are true - RAM is generally RAM - there are some cases where one brand of stick works and others don't... so...

Click the "Installation completed" link at the end of the article and read the user comments for brands that have worked.

According to the last comment the Corsair ValueSelect 1GB works well.

you also need to make sure you have spare slots... laptop manufacturers have a bad habit of populating all slots with lower capacity sticks...

Thanks, this article has prompted me to just try and replace my current memory, rather than to try and run both.

You'll get a noted upgrade if you get a higher end graphics card. I upgraded to a nice nvidia and my framerate shot up pretty high.

Unfortunately, you're using a laptop...

And what's that mean for the video card? Hard to find? Don't make them? I'm a complete hardware noob.

Ah, I think I get it. Mine has an integrated video card that has 128mb dedicated to gaming.. so it can't be replaced, correct?

CPUz will also tell you whats installed on your computer. It's usually difficult to get any kind of decent (desktop comparable) FPS rates out of a laptop. Find out what your laptop's maximum supported RAM is, and upgrade to that. Also, DDR400 might actually be cheaper than DDR333 and will be backwards compatible. Aside from that, I've had exceptionally poor luck with PNY anything.. so I'd stay away from them. G.Skill has always performed well and lasted a long time for me. You may also consider investing in a laptop cooler - usually like a pad with fans in it that your laptop sits on. You can also try elevating the back of the laptop a little bit - HP laptops commonly have fan exhaust on the bottom of the laptop, which is useless for any kind of cooling, especially on a soft or uneven surface. PK was right that heat is a common murderer of laptop performance.

Sorry for the run-on post, let us know how it turns out.

Thanks for the post. I do use a laptop cooler from Targus. I ordered the memory from Patriot; they had good reviews for my exact laptop and was the best price.
