Angry smh...bad day

so i backed in to a boulder in my friend's gravel driveway, why it's there i have no idea.

does anyone have an estimate on how much to get it repainted? the scratches are too deep to buff out and it's just the rear right bumper. :(

oh and to top it off, on the way home my air pressure light came on and i had a screw in my tire. got it plugged already. worst night ever.

On second hand, sucks, if they will buff out why repaint?

I rip epic beer farts in my car constantly (which means "Yes, nice to meet you and welcome to the forums").

Like Jumpman says if the damage is too deep to simply buff out, repainting won't fix it. If you post pics we can better understand if it's repairable or needs to be replaced. Paint comes after.

If it won't buff out you'll most likely need a collision center/body shop to fix it.

Or learn to live with it.

Good luck! M2

Hello! I'm also a long time lurker (a really long time lurker....two years!), but I've finally decided to register, so you're not the only one. Anyway, I did this same stupid thing back in October. Only I didn't back into a boulder, I backed into a stone landscaping wall around one of those mulch flower bed things. Anyway, our damage is probably similar. Basically, I carved deep grooves into the rear plastic bumper cover. It can't buff it out, of course, and using touch-up paint would look bad.

You will need to go to a body shop to get it fixed. They will use filler, and the entire bumper will be refinished. I already got estimates, and I will be getting it repaired this summer. So, I can give you an idea of what it's going to cost. The estimated range from $485 at the least expensive place, to $618 at the most expensive place. I'm leaving sales tax out of this, since it will vary by state. Here in Ohio, it is around seven percent. In case you're scratching your head about the wide range of prices, it's because the $485 one is from a regular hole-in-the-wall collision repair shop. The $618 one is from a body shop that specializes in high end German cars (BMW, Porsche, etc.). I'm going to go with the most expensive one, because I won't have anything to worry about. I can afford the price, and I know that they'll do outstanding work. Since it sounds like you want to get your bumper fixed, just save up the money and go to the best place possible. Whatever you do, do not ever shop based on price. You will get what you pay for. You don't want to cheap it out only to have the clearcoat peeling off the bumper a few months later.

I believe if it's bad enough they just toss the old one and install a new one that they repaint.

Ran into a big rock in what I thought was a parking space last summer. It ended up costing almost $800 to fix. :-(

I'm just amazed how fragile car bumpers are nowadays. I my case, I barely touched that stone wall thing, and I completely scraped it up. I was going maybe two miles an hour at most. I wish auto manufacturers would make bumpers a bit tougher.

forgive me if my wording looks condescending, but would you rather the car absorb the impact or your body?

Nope, no offense taken. Not condescending at all! I forgot there for a moment that pretty much everything in modern automobiles is designed in a certain way for a reason. Bumpers can always be replaced. But your safety and health cannot be.
