Yaris hatch discontinued for 2019 in the US?
Looks like the Yaris hatch is done in the US for 2019. Noticed that there were only links to a 2018 model on Toyota's site while all the other models had a 2019 equivalent and then found this:
https://www.carsdirect.com/automotiv...inued-for-2019 The iA (Mazda) sedan made the cut though. Though they said "After confirming Toyota's plan for the Yaris, Ms. Hubbell noted "Additionally, we’re working on something new for MY2020".... We'll probably end up with an uglier version of a re-badged Mazda 2 in the US. |

They'll probably bring it back if petrol prices spike but at the moment who in the US needs a small economical hatchback when petrol is cheaper than water.

Maybe they're hoping that the corolla hatch will sell better if there is no yaris hatch.
Who here was actually planning to buy a 2019 or newer yaris? I wasn't.

In the GRMM trim, I would have considered it.

Honestly, as cool as the GRMN is at 200hp, if they just made a scaled down model that squeezed out 150hp and keep the weight at 2300lbs, it would be a fun little car. Keep the price at the 2018 level - I'd be interested.

It is awesome, but not worth the price that they sold the original batch in.
If they mass-produced I suppose it could be quite a bit cheaper.

Even if I was in the market for a new car, I don't think I would consider the liftback anyway. I watched a couple of reviews on YouTube of the 2018. Seems like the quality dropped. Like the center console can be wiggled. The problem is, you can no longer get a Yaris made in Japan. I wouldn't trust any car made by the French. I'd question the quality control. I've read in the YouTube comments of Europeans complaining about the quality of even the French-made 2nd gen Yaris. The Corolla hatch looks pretty cool. Bummer it has a CVT, though.

Did not know that, thanks for the info. My car is 2nd gen just like your 2012, and has absolutely zero squeaks and creaks. If it did, I would have sold it long ago, because that would drive me crazy! And no wiggly console. Wonder if the interior fit-and-finish depends on who was in charge of quality control on the day the car was manufactured. Sounds like I got lucky with mine.

Per Autoblog and other sites, there's no 2019 hatchback. As others stated, it's strange Edmunds hasn't posted this info.
Here is url from Automobile magazine site: https://www.automobilemag.com/news/t...ficially-dead/ My new used 2016 is tight like a vault, built in France. EDIT: There may be a 2020 Yaris hatchback, based on the Mazda 2/Yaris sedan platform. Last edited by 2008RedHatch; 02-04-2019 at 08:32 PM. |

2008RedHatch Sounds like you got a good French-made car, too. Maybe the people in all those YouTube videos I watched were unjustifiably negative.
I checked the website of the Toyota dealership where I bought my car, and there are no 2019 hatches listed for sale. Only the sedan is available for the 2019 model year. |

There's still a few 2018 hatches available, but dealers are only asking $1000 off MSRP. But, used 16's and 17's are quite less $.

I would have considered buying a new Yaris, if need be. I love its subcompactness and its bulletproof reliability. Only thing I'd change is I would get a 5 door hatch instead of a 3 door hatch and would get any color except black. Other than that, I really do love the Yaris in just about every way. Came across this site the other day, and it ranked the Yaris hatch (not the Mazda Yaris iA) #1 in terms of subcompact reliability. My Yaris has easily been the most reliable car I've ever owned. Zero problems in over 8 years....

Car & Driver posted a scoop that there will be a 2020 Yaris hatchback. But, it will be a Mazda 2 hatch, aka a version of the Yaris sedan, nee Scion iA.
https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a2...onfirmed-2020/ But, not going to be official until the NYC Auto Show in April. Also posted by Automobile Mag: https://www.automobilemag.com/news/2...hback-mazda-2/ EDIT: I see posted in 3rd Gen forum, too, Last edited by 2008RedHatch; 02-01-2019 at 01:15 AM. |

We still have them in Canada. Toyota built Yaris tenure here 2006-2019, 2 model years more than the US.

FWIW, Toyota has a "long term partnership" with Mazda, since 2015.
