The AEM comes with the clearest instructions (with photos) that I've ever had for any product. You only need to worry about a bypass valve if you plan to drive through more than about a foot of water. If you plan to do that - you're an idiot.

Too much hype over these bypass valves...
People tend to think a little puddle is going to get sucked right up into their intakes..... the only time these will work, is if the filter is COMPLETELY submerged under water... if you're hitting puddles that deep, pack some arm floaties and a speedo. |

But people, it can happen, what about an hour long drive in a thunderstorm at highway speeds, thats alot of water soaking into the filter, and maybe getting through, i understand the bypass valve doesn't protect against that example, but I've seen alot of people mis judge the depth of a puddle, during huge storms only to stall the vehicles etc....

The filter is up under the headlight, inside the plastic shield up under your wheel well. The only way to get your filter submerged is to drive into very deep water. People do that sometimes, but they're idiots.

Agree with Violin.
When you install the CAI, you'll realize how much of a pain it is for anything to reach the filter.

Driving in a rain storm will not "soak" your filter, nor will it hydrolock your car. Any intake manufacturer will even tell you that... its the deep water, where your filter is UNDER water is where a bypass valve is used.
The engine no longer struggles to suck up a 2.5" diameter pipe of water, all the way to the engine, instead the bypass opens and sucks air from up above. This Topic = BEATEN 2 DEATH! |

i thought the topic was how ez it was to install? and yea it is easy to install. AEM website used to have a page featuring how they got 2 lil kids to install an AEM intake.
