Cool DIY: Changing Factory Door Handles and Lock Cover

Another quick and easy DIY. 10 minutes tops!

Got some chrome door handles and lock covers off Ebay. I was concerned about the quality...no worries...they are made as well or better than the stock handles.

Best of all no need to remove the door panel to get these installed!

Start by removing the plastic plug near the back of the door.

You will see a torx screw inside the hole. Unscrew it using a 5/32 torx bit. Dont worry about the door screw falling into the door panel because it has a retainer.

Next remove the lock cover by pulling it out of the door.

Gently pry the cover off the lock using a flathead screwdriver.

Put your new lock cover on the lock. Easy so far.

While you have the lock cover out grab the door handle and gently slide it toward the lock cover opening and pull it out of the door.

Be sure and retain the black plastic lock cover and door handle 'template' (they will come off the door). These will need to go back on with the new door handle.

Take the new door handle and insert the side away from the lock cover first then insert the lock cover side in the opening. Slide the handle as far opposite the door lock cover opening as possible.

Reinsert the new door lock cover and tighten the torx screw inside the door.

I'm not a fan of the chrome front grill and what not, but I do think the handles look quite nice.

What do you guys want, blood??? LOL....excuse the filthy hands...I just noticed that....didnt take the time to use my orange cleaner from a day painting the infamous rear drums.

I dropped some clothes at the dry cleaner that afternoon and scared the lady inside to death. She came running out the drive through with 2 band aids!!!
