My Yaris is Melting...Literally

So a few days ago, I pulled up to my driveway and I smell this weird burning smell. I think nothing of it, maybe the coating burning off of my new tires. No biggie. It'll go away.

Then yesterday after mounting my new springs, I pull off of the interstate and I instantly smell something burning and there is smoke coming out from under the hood. WTF?! I pop the hood and smoke start pouring out. It doesn't smell like oil or coolant, but more like melted plastic. The smoke seems to be coming from somewhere above the exhaust manifold but I can't say for certain.

I immediately head towards the Toyota dealership since it's only a 1/2 mile down the road. At the Toyota dealership, the car starts to smoke inside their service department and they have no idea what's going on. The ask me if I've changed the oil. I tell them that it has 1650 miles on it and they say they'll get to it on Monday.

This SUCKS! I finally get my wheels and springs on, and my car starts to melt. Now I'm driving this RAV4 that I want to smash into a wall until I hear back from them. Here's hoping that it's nothing serious.

Sorry about your troubles, that sucks. I wonder if something got out of place and its too close to something that could melt it...then again your engine compartment gets really hot no matter what, obviously it shouldn't be doing that. Keep us posted.

Hope that this is not a bad sign...I mean you would think that Toyota would have the kinks worked out with how many years the line has been in production.

Did you get any rust proofing or undercoating done??? Sometimes that stuff gets oversprayed and it needs to burn off..

False alarm. Somehow, a piece of tire from the road managed to wedge itself up and over the bottom covering. It then, somehow, managed to land itself right on top of my exhaust and then proceed to melt. Thank God it wasn't anything serious. I'll be taking pics of the car with the new wheels and springs later now that it's not melting anymore.

I had a plastic garbage bag to the same thing to my last truck. Scary stuff out in the middle of nowhere and the cab starts to fill up with smoke.
