Did the Chevy Aveo is cheaper than the Yaris (from a newspaper)?

I just read this interesting news on "La Presse" (a Montreal newspaper) website, and I just want to bring it to you. It's in french but I'll try to translate it for ya (original french version is on bottom).

Enjoy!

Chevy Aveo: move expensive than a Toyota Yaris because of the gas.
by Alain Mc Kenna
Special Collaboration, La Presse

General Motors carried out the "virtual" launching of its cheapest under-compact, the Chevrolet Aveo 2007. Entirely re-examined only two years and half after its initial launching, the small car build in Korea is larger and more roomy than the preceding model.

It is also running cleaner, but its gas consumption, approximately 7,7 liters for 100 kilometers, is far from its two more important rivals on the market. The Honda FIT presents a fuel consumption evaluated at 6,7L/100KM, while the Toyota Yaris consumes an average of 6,4L/100KM .

On an annual base, Aveo will costs at least 375$ more for gas. On the Web site of GM Canada, the offers vary according to the area. For a lease, the best offer available for Aveo 2007 is 149$ per month for 60 months. Yaris 2007, in the same conditions, lease is 172$ per month, but because it cost 31$ less per month, for same mileage, it is cheaper than Aveo. Even with a difference of almost 3000$ with the Chevrolet for a purchase.

I test drove one
basically it's Korean made shit!
gutless, very plain, no nice features and it's a rattle trap.

I'm shocked so many people actually buy these. I test drove the Aveo after the yaris, fit, Mazda 3sport, focus etc and it was by far the worst car out of them all. I would buy a kia before I got the aveo. My only guess is people wanting to buy a car just to get around buy the cheapest car possible and don't look at things like performance, mileage, quality, available features etc etc etc.

Yeah, the Chevy Aveo may look good on paper (value) but too bad its made of paper
Also it gets crummy gas milage for its class which is unexceptable, especially with the gas prices. The new one in the front looks better (IMO) but the rear Nasty looking! I hope they don't screw up the hatch varient which I think looks better at least.
