Question Need help with my Yaris

Hi, I both a used 2007 Yaris HB with 33k miles and I noticed that it was wasting more fuel then normal. I scanned it and the Oxygen sensor was bad, that this was the reason for it to waste more fuel then normal. Know I've noticed that is wasting oil too, but the car is not leaking oil, nor smoking oil. I changed the oil and filter and it didn't even last 3 weeks. What could it be?

Have you cleaned it really well and looked for any drips or oozes of oil? A leak doesn't have to look very bad to go through a lot of oil fast. The dealer shop mechanics insist on replacing the oil plug gasket at every change (and charge a crazy price for it!) If you see a drop hanging on the plug, that could be enough to explain your oil loss. Put paper under the engine and see if you collect any drips.

If it's burning the oil in the engine, it may not appear to smoke much because of the catalyst burning the oil. That might explain the O2 sensor going bad early. I think that's covered under the 80,000 mile emissions system warranty.

I checked the floor and its dry and clean, and I didn't see any leaks. But if the O2 sensor is bad, it can burn the oil in the engine? Thanks for your help, I really appreciate.

No, no, I'm saying that if the engine's putting too much oil in the exhaust, it could foul the O2 sensor. I'm also saying that the catalyst may be burning up much of the oil smoke if it is doing that, so you don't see it.

Oh, ok. So what could it be happening then if its not leaking? How can I know if its burning the oil or idk?
