When I saw the word hybrid in the first link, I thought the car must have been modified. Then I read the story. I thought, IIRC that route includes a lot of 'gradual downhill' (I drove to Las Vegas a fair number of times when I lived in Southern California). I thought I remembered that Las Vegas is at an elevation of 2,000 feet. I was off by 1 foot....Wikipedia says 2,001 feet and 39 feet for Cypress. Even given that, the figures this group managed to obtain are outstanding! The best MPG ever (for a whole tank) in my Yaris was from Winnemucca, NV to the SF Bay Area...cant remember the exact figure, but it was around 49 MPG. You're right, it will be interesting to see how it compares to the Skyactiv 2.

Is impressive for 275 mile run . Doubt these are serious hypermilers .

Ive seen the Mirage.

Im impressed with the 1.2 liter engine but the car is about 60% the quality of the ECHO/Yaris.

You might get lucky.

I can only think of one thing concrete/visual off the top of my head (that the wiring under the hood isn't as well protected....I probably remembered more right after I looked at it), but that's the feeling that lingers at this point. Probably not that low, but probably not more than 70% the quality of the Yaris. Perhaps I'm thinking too much about the memory of my Mirage/Colt. Needed a new ECM (quoted at almost 700.00 for the part way back then) plus some other expensive unrelated repair that I can't remember (I didn't do either repair) at 90-92,000 miles. I just stopped driving it (I also had an Integra), and I don't even remember how I came to 'no longer own it' after that.

Went and looked at a DE Mirage with the C.V.T. earlier . Remembered to look at the location of the oil filter for easy O.C.s and discovered the oil filter in the front of engine surrounded by many things making it difficult to get your hand or wrench in . There's also something beneath it where the oil would run over making for a messy oil change . Reminds me of the Suzuki SX4 oil filter location . Also got better gas mileage on the trip . Took these when arriving home . So , not very likely to buy a Mirage for awhile . The Yaris is much more simpler for O.C.s .

There is an article in Today's USA Today (Page 8 B) on the Mirage. Their test car recorded 29.3 MPG .

The 'rotating wheel' on the Yahoo! Home Page today included a story on this subject: 10 Worst Cars of All Time Revisited

The first list came out in 2012

The list is from TheStreet.com

On the revised list 2014 Mirage replaces the 1955 BMW Isetta as the 3rd Worst Car of All Time.

P.S. -- Later (before closing that page) noticed comments (Yahoo! user comments) under the picture of the Mirage.
The comments are....well....interesting. One owner commented and likes it. Some of the comments are humorous.
One person wrote that someone they know 'dodged a bullet' and (paying more) bought a Yaris instead.
