Genuine Toyota bug shield hood deflector protector (pics)

I just got this in from Garm.
Pluses:
It DOES look cool.

It's sturdy and does'nt flex or shift around.

A quality built product that's made in Canada!

All adhesive bumpers and paint guards are 3M.

Minuses;
Insallation takes patience and accurate measuring with a ruler. Many small parts.

Kinda wedges between the front nose cap of the car and the hood tightly. You have to raise the bump stops under the hood.

Part under the hood rubs paint (see pics).

This looks great on but I'm trying to figure out if I did something wrong as to make the underside of the protector's plastic rub off the paint. Also the protector tends to "shoehorn" between the body and the hood.

I'd like to hear from other owners of this part to see if they have similar issues,,,,,

Looks like your installation was spot on, there's always trade offs with these things, you might put some 3M tape where the paint is rubbing just in case you ever decide to remove the guard. Otherwise, it will probably need to stay on to cover up any marks having it installed will leave.

Well. at least the marks are on the underside of the hood. I just don't want rust there in the future...

I'll have to check if mine has become like that. I've had my deflector on for some months now:

Not really sure what the problem is w/ what you're describing, but when I installed mine I wrapped the 3M tape around the edges so they cover the underside of the hood as well where the clips attach.

The problem is where the black plastic curves under the hood to grip it in place. It's got a sharp edge thats rubbed the paint off underhood already. Also, when you close your hood, does the deflector squeeze in real tight between the nosecap and the hood? I can't even get a piece of paper to slide in there.
Please check yours if you can and let me know your findings..
Thanks!

Please post back after it's in and you've driven around a bit with it on. I got paint wear almost immediatly.
I'll probably just leave it on at this point since it does look nice..

It seems on my white Yaris all the bugs collect below where this defecltor mounts, think this is mainly for show.

On my black Yaris, the lower part of the hood is where I get all my rock chips; so this would help, except I plan to get a replacement hood one day...

I think this is a great idea.
However, I wish the lexan (plastic) material was clear & not smoked (dark)
Then you could paint the backside of the material to match your cars color.
Just a thought.
Thats the only reason I haven't purchased one.

Mine's been on the car three years, no problems, no rust. I think the toughest part is lining everything up be fore tightening the screws. Didn't come with instructions then?

Me, too. I would buy a clear one in an instant even though I already have a few rock chips.

I wonder if it's made by these guys. http://www.focusauto.com/formfit.html

They make the "form fit" series of hood deflectors and are in Calgary, and my hood deflector looks just like the one in the pictures.
