Need Help Please!!(Break in period)

Ok, I just bought a 2007 3dr CE, and I'm loving it, but the "break in" period is confusing to me. First the sales guy told me that toyota's don't need break in periods, they are all done at the factory. Got home and read my manual and it tells me to not go over 88km/h for the first 1600km's(ya right). The manual says not to go fast, but don't go slow, and to not keep the same speed for long periods of time?????? What?????? I called a service tech at the dealership I got it at, and he said just don't go over 140kms/h, and to vary the speed. I asked him how long could I keep the same speed before changing it, and how much should I change it by, and he said there were no real specifics, but just to do it. I wish I were joking, but I'm not. I love my Yaris, and I want to break it in properly, could you guys/gals give me some "real world" advice. Thank-you.

I am assuming "slushbox" means automatic, so yup it's a slushbox.

I've just finished stressing about all this and all I can say with real certainly is that I did everything wrong and my car is fine. It shifts beautifully, the engine sounds happy, and nothing burst into flame. ;)

My non-professional opinion: drive safely and enjoy yourself and everything else will take care of itself.

+1. i'd just say not to go apeshit in it for about the first 500km (shouldn't take long to put that on).

i broke in my corolla buy doing a burnout with 1.2 miles on the odometer... the motors will be beat before you even drive it. i haven't payed attention to break in periods since the mid 80's...things have changed.

For the sake of comfort, I'll second the "just drive" theory. I peeled out of the dealership's lot.

Enjoy your ride! :)

And ChinoCharles, I've got to say that I love that signature of yours. I've been admiring it all over the site.
