Carbon Motors recently unveiled the E7 aka "The Machine" a purpose built police car which they plan to start building by 2012....

-Ergonomically designed cockpit, built with duty gear and the job in mind

That will probably take 20 years to implement the way the economy is going and police funding...

But, when it does arrive... outrunning is out of the question for most people in normal cars

the economy might actually help the production of this car... with Ford, Chevy, and Dodge in bad shape I doubt they will be spending much money on the development of their full size sedans which have been previously used for most police cars. The current models can only go so long before police forces need to upgrade to stay on top of the game..... enter the machine

Good point, and I would imagine that they would save billions if they went to something more efficient than the fords they use now... just about anything is more efficient than what they are using, still the LTD in some places... and the way they drive, they see probably 10-15 MPG. They should have stepped out of the V8's a long time ago... I mean they have faster 6 cylinders with more power now.

Skipping all of the high-tech cop options, getting some efficient diesel technology into police fleets would go a long way towards getting the general public in the US to accept diesels as an option.

Could be a smart marketing move for someone.

I agree. Some of the newer diesels can move out pretty fast too.
