Gas pedal angle

Just got a 08 3 door. I find the gas pedal angle to be reall weird, it's like stepping down not pushing forward. Has anyone made a modification? Thanks

Pretty hard to modify since the whole assembly is one piece of plastic.

Plus, the seats are high so the angle of your foot results in a more downward motion than a forward motion like in a low-seat sport car or sport coupe.

It felt odd to me when I first got my car too. Especially since I was/am so used to the ergonomics of my Miata (7 years/170k miles).

I haven't really taken the time to look at it closely but I'm assuming that since it's a drive-by-wire system that the bottom of the pedal is sort of "hinged" and when you push on it you're pushing to top of the pedal down...instead of the whole pedal forward (if you catch my drift)

I'm guessing that I didn't notice it at all since I came from a BMW 325i which had a drive-by-wire system with the hinged bottom on the pedal.

the attached picture shows some 3-series pedals. see what I mean? the bottom of the pedal is attached to the floor.

No the Yaris (and all drive-by-wire Toyota) pedal is hinged at the top

this is because of the knobs who claimed floor mats slid and hit
the pedal and caused deadly accidents. the redesign is keep all
accel pedal bits clear of the floor.

My pedal has been hinged at thew top since 2006 when it was made. It is not a result of the farce that was the stuck pedal.

If not for that farce, we wouldn't have the awesome ToySkull emblem.

Now there's a design that rates right up there with the old foot activated high beam switch. F'n things gunked up and corroded right out.

it's funny because I remember the old hi-beam clickers, but I had to tell my wife about them.

as for the pedal being hinged at the bottom: that's germans for you, even if they engineer something wrong they'll never own up to it, heh.

Oh, yeah! One only has to look at the original Beetle to see how the Germans could engineer a crappy design into a technical success. Oh, how I HATED working on beetles...

wasn't it located not only on the floor but behind the clutch?

I used to drive an old Ford F800 delivery truck at work that had the floor high beam switch. It wasn't obstructed by the clutch. I loved clicking that thing, though. It was so satisfying for some reason.

Well all thanks for the airvise. Very simple fix. Remove the gas pedal assembly, pull the foam fake foot pan out, replace the pedal assembly with a 1/8" spacer between the pedal and fire wall. FIXED!! Also if you want more left leg room take out the foam to the far left of the floor pan and firewall, 2"-3" more..

PS My 1st car was a 1929 Ford where there weere no high beams, but you had to step on a button to start it. Toughen up youths.

I tried this mod and I found that removing the foam alone helped, but repositioning the pedal assembly didn't work for me.

I was getting massive knee pain from driving my '08 automatic, and I thought it was the pedal angle, but it was actually the weak pedal return that caused the pain because I was having to angle up my foot constantly.

I put a stress ball underneath the pedal to increase return, and it's been smooth sailing since.
