trd springs and stock shocks?

ok, so here's the deal. i have 17" tires, 215/45/17, and just came across a set of trd springs at a great price - in the box. now i have them, they're sitting in my living room, but after reading through a few different threads here, i'm starting to get nervous.

i'm not using my car for autox or anything. i don't race, i'm purely modifying for cosmetic reasons. that said, i don't need the "best" or "optimum" setup for these.

i guess my questions/concerns are:

-will my tires rub, and if so (since i'm expecting the worst), what's the best way to avoid/fix that?

-will the trd springs work with my stock shocks? again, i'm not looking for performance; just to lower my car and have a decently smooth ride.

-are there any other issues i should concern myself with?

any/all input is appreciated!

The springs will work with the shocks, however they will significantly reduce the life of them. Odds are the stock shocks will only last a year or two with lowering springs on them.

I don't think they will rub, since the trd wheels were the same size, but I could be wrong on that.

Whats the offset on the wheels , are they on the car know , if so
do they rub at the moment .

not sure about the offset. they're on now, yes. and no, they don't rub.

don't laugh, but i should expect some kind of drop with these, yes? afterall, that was the purpose of getting them on such short notice :-p

and i just replaced my struts. the old ones didn't need to be replaced, but again, i found these extremely inexpensive and new :)

The TRD springs are at least a 1" drop. could be 1.5"

You have new struts? Stock ones? ...Why?

Anyways, lots of folks have been lowered on stock struts, myself included.

Im running TRD's on stock struts. They look good, the car handles better than stock but I am planning on getting Tokico Blues ASAP. Save the money on doing the install twice and get new shocks (firmer than stock, i.e. Blues/HTS/TRD).

As for the tires..I have less to say but I am running 205/40/17 with no rubbing. Hope that helps dude.

that's good news :) maybe someday down the road, i'll get them, too. i've heard a lot of good things about the tokico blues (not to mention, they look awesome!)

i wouldnt worry about wearing out your stock shocks prematurely with a mild drop...i had eibach prokits on my matrix w/ stock shocks for a couple years with no problems

im on eibach prokits and stock shocks in my wintermode right now...1" drop front and rear

OEM Mazda MX-3 wheels - - hubcentric ftw

I installed a set of 15x6 Mazda MX-3 rims on my Yaris, too. These are the earlier rims, from the 1992-1994 MX-3 GS. Like the rims used by "thebarber", mine are hubcentric and 45 millimeter offset, so they fit my Yaris perfectly.

My sedan dropped the advertised 1.5" when I put in the TRD springs. 40,000 kilometers later and it's down closer to 2". A stock sedan parks beside me at the office. His looks like a 4X4 in comparison.

NOTE: no where in the TRD instructions does it say that dampers need be installed with the springs. If all you want is cosmetics than you should be fine. That said, your ride may deteriorate somewhat from stock as your OEM shocks will not control the stiffer TRD springs as well as the OEM springs. It may seem more bouncy. This is the cost of saving $.

What you said above me is true, and I myself am another person to tell you, not fixing the bump stop on the stock shocks will kill them within 30k miles of mixed highway/city(where I live its a city, I dont care when others say city, and have a stop sign or light every mile/can do slow speeds cause no one else is there to honk at you/curse you out)

ya, im on 185-60-14 for winter and i feel lower than i did on coilovers with 2"/1.5" drop f/r w/ 205-55-15's this summer...
