Tinted Liftback Tail Lights... A Little different way.
Rather then using a film, or the VHT Nite Shades spray tint, I instead got a can of VHT Window Tinting spray tint.
Once all prep is complete, the VHT gets put on with a heavy coat, looks almost like black water, and allowed to drip down the light assy., as it "self levels" itself out. One coat is all thats needed, and you can follow up with a final clear coat if wanted. NOTE - this will ONLY give your tails a smoked look, not a dark black limo tint look like many coats of Nite Shades will. This is all I wanted, so I'm happy with the results. |

Will that tint hold up to water pretty good? Or will it fade after so many washes....Good Job

Its actually called VHT Window Tint, as in they use it to tint windows normally... so yes. When tinting headlights or tail lights, it gives a smoked apperance with no chance of making one darker then the other, or not spraying correctly like some may experience when using the Nite Shades by VHT.
Window Tint Spray - heavy thick coat, allowed to run off and dry. Nite Shades Spray - light coats until desired darkness is reached. I have now used both products, and like them both. Smoked is all I was after with this set. |

I just ordered some of that window tint from summit racing (cheapest I could find w/shipping). Washington state laws don't let you blackout your tails (or any of the lights for that matter) but im sure this won't get me into trouble... i hope . If it works, i'll probably do my LeBaron as well.

Brake lights, signal lights, and reverse lights all shine bright enough to keep Johnny law happy.

I'm gonna guess those are just hubcaps. If they are would you mind telling me about them? I like that look.

Chris, can I tell you how fucking awesome your car looks? I love how you keep simplifying all of the jagged visual edges to give it an almost surreal, simplistic exterior look. You're on your way to one sick ride! |

That's pretty nice looking but the smoked look isn't for me anymore.

Thanks Chino, with all this extra time on my hands, I've been ordering stuff online like mad. Looks I'll be making a purcahse soon. I think I might go a little darker than Chris though. Is there anything I should know on removing the tails?

As for the tails.... pop off the 2 plastic grills in the hatch area, then take a 10mm socket to remove 2 nuts per housing. Tug them from the outside, and unplug the 1 wire harness. Simple.
If using the Window Tint Spray, do NOT sand or scuff the surface.. it warns of this on the can as well. Any scratches or scuffs will be filled in by the tint spray, and will be seen! As for the hub caps, got 'em off eBay. They are getting powdercoated Polar White next week. Chino, thanks man, its just a lil side thing for me.. tweeks here and there nothing major or expensive. Got my other babies for that. |
