2012 Yaris - mileage variants
Hi,
I'm looking to buy a Yaris in UK and have found 2 possible vehicles but would like to know which would be best; 2012, in burning red, 21k miles, fsh (3 stamps). 2012, in dacoma grey, 33k miles, fsh (3 stamps). So basically we have exact same cars/models/spec, same price with only difference being the colour and miles. Now I slightly favour the grey colour but this has also done 12k miles more than the red one. I know I'm being pedantic but should I be going for the lower miles over the colour or given the reliability of Toyota and low miles of both, just go for the colour I want instead. I can be persuaded to go for red if the mileage factor carries more weight in terms of getting the better car. I am not sure what type of miles (ie town or motorway) each car has done. Any advice would be appreciated. |

In both cases the mileage is so low that you are basically purchasing a brand new Yaris. A difference of 12K miles is so little that I would just go with the one that your prefer.

This is absolutely a colour decision.

This would be an easy decision for me: I'd pick the one with lower miles.

I think of it this way:
12,000 miles will amount to say, $100 in resale value. Here in Canada, the colour can affect our insurance rates by about as much. If you're concerned about the cost, go for what suits you. While owning the car, I'm sure you'll notice how insignificant it is, though. I'd go for the colour |

Went for the grey. I now have a yaris to sit alongside my 'A' car, BMW 3 Series M Sport. I wonder which will prove more reliable?!

I think they'll both be equally reliable. Bimmer will cost multiples more in repairs and replacements, though, wouldn't you think? Is it E46?

Having owned BMW's, the Yaris will be far cheaper to operate.
Most of the maintenance on the BMW was spent on suspension failure: ball joints, etc.. Though the window system is also a trouble spot on some models, tracks and the gearing are an assembly. In two used Yaris's in 7 years of driving i have only done routine maintenance. Same amount of time in a BMW 3 series every other year for ball joints, links, window tracks, window motors, sunroof gasket. That was the last straw. The car became a mobile swimming pool. It was traded in for the Yaris. The Yaris is almost as much fun as my 79' Austin Mini 1000 was. Norton |

It's a F30, 2013 plate, M Sport. bought virtually new with only 800 miles on clock.
The yaris is for the wife. We will basically be doing 5k miles each in our respective cars. Both cars will be with me 10 years unless I get major issues. |

With that sort of mileage, I don't expect to get any issues apart from some maintenance.
