What RPM's are you americans getting on Auto trans?
if anybody has installed a tachometer on your auto trans id really love to know what RPM's you are getting cruising at 60, 70, 80, and 90 mph
i pretty much always drive highway, lots of country here, and I'm always at 80, sometimes 90....im getting about 26 mpg. im thinking it must be bringing down some pretty high RPM's at 80 since that is my usual cruising speed if im not passing, so some of that info would be awesome. |

Well driving at thoes speeds will destroy your fuel mileage. Back off to the speed limit and you mileage will increase a huge amount. The car was designed as a comuter car not an open road speedster, it was geared for optimal MPG around 55 mph. My Canadian Automatic 100kph = 62mph = 2600 rpm 120kph = 74mph = 3100 rpm 130kph = 80mph = 3400 rpm 140kph = 86mph = 3700 rpm

I look at it this way, when I want speed, this car will do it,and still be good on gas, when I want to save alot of money,I slow down.

same here. My RPM's used to be lower around 65mph = 2500rpm but after changing my driving style it seems to have jumped to around 26-2700 rpms.

Do you think that the car is kind of adjustable according to your driving style?

so i guess just going by the rpm's then the 74 mph is probably going to yield a pretty decent balance between speed and mpg? what do you guys think? ugh, im going to hate slowing down, wish i could own two cars:) oh, and wouldnt the rpm's be pretty different with the 1.3 and 1.5? or roughly the same?

remembering back to my trip to boston, 110mph = 4100rpm
and has anyone else noticed that on longer trips if you stay a constant speed on a flat surface that your rpm's drop (nothing big mind you). I'm talking like a line/bar.

That is very low,I gun mine all the time, have 7.5" width tires,go over 100 alot, mostly 85,and still get 35-37mpg on average, but Ive heard that the CAI,and lowering the car,and lighter rims, and better exhaust, bigger headers, bigger intake manifold, and some others, all will help in giving better fuel milage if you dont have a lead foot.
