HOW TO RUN STRETCHED TIRES?
So I been doin some research and I'm wanting to do the stretched tire for my car, I'm running 185/60/R15'S on stock steel wheels. If the look of em on 15's to 16's look good then thats the route I'm goin but I could use some detailed info on how to go this route.
Time to start class, Stretch Tires 101 is in Sesh. |

I'm not sure if you mean fitting the stock tires on 16s that wont work. Only 16" tires fit 16" wheels. Stretched refers to the width of the tire being narrower than the width of the wheel. Right now I have 165/45 on an 8" wide wheel. So that's a 6.5" tire on 8". That's a stretch of about 1.5" of course you're talking about rubber so there is a flex.
You have to start by picking a wheel. Remember on sedans 16 or 17 looks good anything smaller is good for performance but looks awkward. Also running stretched is dangerous, your lips are exposed and can chip or bend easily, the tires could potentially come off the headlock if you push it and you always have to refill the tires. Not to mention 165s are 20mm narrower than stock. |

I am also going to run stretched tires... but not as much as 1.5.
I'm going for 185/45 on 7J rims. It is not much stretch, but I don't want that, because of the things 1.5 just mentioned. Also... I don't want to change tires every few months :)

185mm is ~ 7.3" so that is not a stretch at all. Your wheel is narrower than your tire.

It'll look like this:

^ You say it's not a stretch, but the page you link to has the following image, which to me looks exactly like G-Ammo's example.

Damn, Yeah I'm not gonna lie I got a heavy foot at times an I enjoy the quick sharp turns and all. I might get a slight stretch or I might just keep it legit and run 16's or 17's tops.
I just gotta get rims bad, I wanna nail down a few cosmetic details before hitting the performance shelves and Micro Image Online is my first stop shop! Btw 1.5 when are you guys doing another meet? It didn't see it till after that your guys meet was in the parking lot at Down Town Disney, which is awesome. I live pretty close to Disney. |

true, Orlando is a good meet spot, most of the FL Yaris peeps that are active here are from Central FL I am really the only one who has to commute far to get there. I may try and set something up for after new year but the local boards have been dead lately so idk what will happen.

Well, know this for sure man I'm in, I donno if anyone else might show in but I'm down to ride, just tell me the round about day and all. Hell, maybe even hit disney or what ever, take a cruise I'll bring my lady with me I'm sure she'd love to chill and all.
Btw the Ksports lowering spring, can you run those on stock shocks with out too much worry or is it too much stress on the shocks? |

Sorry for the double posts...
but it might not be a stretch what you think of it as a stretch... I now have 16'' wheels with normal tires which are just straight on the rim itself. The pictures I just show you and you show are definatly a bit stretched.

I've run stretched tires before with no problems at all. 30k miles on one set: they were 215/40/18 on a 9" wide wheel. I had them on my passat which weighed probably twice what a yaris does. So as far as safety goes a little stretch will be a problem.
Dinoeggxo ran a 195/45/15 on a 8.5" rear wheel all summer on her yaris with no problems as well. You'll likely need to find a performance shop with experience mounting stretched tires or has a cheetah to blast air into them go get them to seat. After that you should have no problems. I come from the Vw community where I see more stretch than not these days. I've seen 205/40/18's on 9.5" wide wheels. Yes it will leave your lips exposed but be alert when driving and parking to avoid pot holes and curbs. 165 and 185 width 15's are available but often hard to find. Tireseasy.com is where Dinoegg got her 195/45/15 Onlinetires.com is another place that carries a wide variety of widths Blackforestindustries.com often carries 165/45 and 165/55 15's Most of the brands you will find are "Nanking" or "federal". I have used both brands and have absoloutly ZERO complaints. I had a set of federal ss595 that were on par with my falken azenis that were 2x the price. I even sliced a sidewall a little on a Nanking and it lasted another 20k miles. They are just "no name" brands, they stretch well and many peoe use them because they are an inexpensive option. |

I love my nankangs. The 165s on my 8s actually run a lot better than expected and I get good performance out of those skinny ass tires.
I also used onlinetires for most of my tire purchases. BFI has a lot of rare sizes but charge out the ass, tunershop.com is better IMHO @Hanzo you can deff run springs on stock shocks. It will add stress but it will still last quite some time. |

Agreed BFI's prices are a little on the high side. But they almost always have the rarest sizes in stock. Got to pay to play haha. They had clearance on their tires recently so if they have some left you might be able to get some stuff cheap.
