Hello everyone. I just got a 2010 Yaris given to me. 250k miles but it’s going to just be a nice little commuter car with some fun stuff added. I’m on here looking for recommendations. I see things about the 1ZZ throttle body that looks easy enough. But I’m going to need exhaust maybe a header and would like a real cold air setup not a hot air cone filter bs. k&n is pretty proud of theirs any other options out there? Car runs and drives. I’ve never owned an import just older vehicles an classic v8’s so this might be pretty fun. And I will be looking for used aftermarket parts and upgrades as well. I’m a mechanic by trade anyways so let the free Yaris project begin. Thanks guys.

Good luck with it! It’s a great little car. You might run a Compression check and have a look at the spark plugs to determine engine condition. If the engine looks good, have the wheels off and check the brakes. Even if the pads are good, you might want to Bleed bleed them.

Let’s see what else I can think of you can check?

I did a very low buck cold air intake, as per this video:

Seems to have improved power and mpg very slightly.

I picked up a 2AZ throttle body part# 22030-0H030 from a Camry to put on my
1NZ, but haven't gotten around to it yet. The 2AZ throttle body has an easy to
access idle screw, whereas the 1ZZ throttle body has the idle screw under factory
epoxy that can be very difficult to deal with. I intend to duplicate the position of
the 1NZ butterfly idle setting on the new 2AZ throttle body using an OBD II reader.
From what I'm reading, doing this should eliminate the high idle on startup issues.
