Tight spot in rack and pinion

Tight spot in rack and pinion. I was driving a used Lexus for a friend to evaluate and win going down the highway and right in the center of the steering there’s a tight spot. A tight spot in the rack.

What could this be? Otherwise everything was fine.

Thanks!

2 things come to mind..was it noticeable at ALL rpms?..some cars will get stiffer at higher rpms and loose at low

is it drive by wire or hyd/elec?

double check that it doesnt do it in other spots..find an empty parkinglot.....if it does it in other spots ts a bad bearing in the column

It’s a 2011 so I would assume it’s hydraulic. I noticed it cruising at 60 On the highway. It doesn’t do it driving around town or in the parking lot

its likely to be intentional then...alot of cars after mid 90s especialy higher end stuff had a setup where the higher the speed the stiffer the steering in an attempt to keep ppl from losing control it also dampens alot of rut issues that alot of drivers will complain about not realising they need to pick a different line

all said its likely normal
